Where are the 3D Printers?

There are 7 six 3D printers located at the MakerSpace in Whittier Hall 109 - 113. The MakerSpace is is an interdisciplinary space on campus open to all students, faculty, and staff.

. Five Ultimaker brand 3D printers are designed to print in PLA plastic, a versatile plastic that comes in a number of colors. One Markforged Onyx Pro 3D printer is designed to print in a proprietary carbon fiber that can be reinforced with fiberglass for added strength, creating a part that can withstand a higher amount of stress than traditional plastic prints.

The Makerspace holds periodic Intro to 3D printing workshops each semester. If you are unable to attend one of our workshops, you can still visit the Makerspace and someone will be able to assist you with getting started with 3D printing. Please check the MakerSpace website for current hours.

The MakerSpace is an open spacelab for students, faculty, and staff to use, but certain spaces do equipment does require training and certification before use for safety reasons.   MakerSpace Manager Jaquie Tull can be contacted with any questions.  The space is staffed when open.  Email jtull2@swarthmore.edu or just drop by and someone will be there to assist you.

They can be used for personal projects or academic ones, but priority is given to classes and class projects.

Printing Tips

There are a variety of problems with an STL file that can causing printing problems.  Netfabb Basic has a good set of repair tools.  Run the repair and update the stats to make sure things look okay.  Then apply the repair.
