The Swarthmore MakerSpace is located in Whittier Hall, rooms 109 - 113.  It acts as a physical nexus for the MakerSpace Ecosystem and the Swarthmore Innovation Collaborative’s work.  Staffed by MakerSpace Manager, Jacqueline Tull the space has resources and equipment for making, including a full Wood Shop and tools for digital fabrication, such as 3D printers, a laser cutter, a waterjet cutter, a vinyl cutter, a 3D scanner, and other tools, such as sewing machines.  We can support a student exploring Japanese joinery in a studio course, or a group of students building a solar powered speaker, and view ourselves as a testing ground for creative innovation.  The space enjoys active participation from departments across the College such as Theater, Computer Science, Biology, Physics, Engineering, and Art. In addition to curricular uses, there is significant interest from individual students, faculty and staff.  We have partnerships with other shops on campus, the Center for Innovation and Leadership, the Social Innovation Lab, as well as MakerSpaces at Bryn Mawr and Haverford.  We are developing community partnerships with organizations like Chester Made.
