Feature Component
The Feature is a versatile component designed to – as the name suggests – feature a person, event, announcement, or other information through the use of an image alongside a short paragraph of text (or less).
Elements
The Feature component contains the following fields. Even though some fields are not listed as required, we strongly suggest you fill in those listed below so that the component doesn’t look malformed or awkward.
Label
Title (required)
Layout (required)
Abstract (not required, but strongly suggested)
Image or Video (not required, but strongly suggested)
Call to Action Link
Examples
Step-by-step Instructions
Add a Title.
Optionally, add a short Label to give further context to the feature. Example: “Sustainability” for a feature about composting on campus.
Use the Feature Layout selector to determine whether the image will appear on the left or right side of the screen.
Add the Feature Image (optimal dimensions: width of 1530px by height of 1020px).
If using an existing image already in the system:
Click Insert an Image button to launch the browser pop-up window.
Navigate to the image under Select Image, clicking on the radio button to the left of the thumbnail to select it.
Press the Select Image button in the bottom left.
If using a new image:
If you’re adding a new image to the system, click the Insert an Image button to launch the browser pop-up window button.
Click Upload Image and then the Browse… button to browse your local system for the file, select it, and click the Select Image button.
Optionally, add a Video URL. The system expects the video to come from YouTube.
Note: If both a Video URL and Image File are present, the image will be used as the video’s “poster image”. This is the way the system is intended to be used but is not required.
Add the text that should accompany the feature in the Abstract field. This field is not required but it’s strongly suggested. Ideally, the abstract should not be longer than a paragraph.
Optionally, add a Call to Action Link. This will inherit the standard Call to Action formatting. If desired, toggle Open URL in a new window to have the Call to Action link open in a new tab when clicked.
