9.2) News
Some depart include a News Feed Component on their website. The content that appears in this pane is produced by the Communications Office. As news stories are created for the Swarthmore website and homepage, they are also tagged so that they will automatically appear on the appropriate websites that have a News Feed Component. For example, if a news story is written for the College homepage about a particular faculty member then that same story is also tagged to appear on the department site.
Departments can also create their own news stories. If your department wishes to write their own news stories that will then appear in the News Feed Component, then follow these are the steps:
When your news story is ready for publication, contact Communications Office at webeditor@swarthmore.edu, and we’ll tag the news story so that it will appear in the appropriate news feeds.
Any questions about College news that appears in your News Feed Component, can be directed to webeditor@swarthmore.edu
9.3) Events
Many websites include a Events Calendar Feed Component on their website. The content that appears in this pane does not reside in Drupal. The content is pulled directly from the Campus Calendar (Swat Central). When an event is added to the calendar (and if is tagged correctly by the event organizer), then it will automatically appear in the Events Calendar Component. Having an Events Calendar component on your site is great way to promote your upcoming events on your website without having to duplicate the content in both Drupal and Swat Central.
For any questions about reserving space on campus or using Campus Calendar (Swat Central) system, please contact the Events Management at space@swarthmore.edu.
For any questions about a particular event that appears (or doesn't appear) in your Events Calendar Feed Component, please contact the Campus Calendar administrators at calendar@swarthmore.edu.
9.4) Acalog
Academic departments manage their course data through the Acalog system. Acalog is maintained by the Registrar’s Office. Any question regarding course data should directed to the Registrar’s Office. The course data in Acalog data is automatically syndicated to the department’s corresponding courses page in Drupal (Example: History).
Any questions about how the content appears in Drupal should be directed to the Web Team at web-update@swarthmore.edu
9.5) Videos
The Drupal CMS supports embedding both Youtube and Vimeo video content. The components that support video include: Feature, Feature Link List, Slideshow/Gallery, and Video Only components.
Any video that appears on the Swarthmore website must meet certain requirements:
The video must include closed captioning in order to meet Swarthmore’s accessibility standards.
The video cannot include any copyrighted material such as music.
Any video that does meet these criteria is subject to removal.
9.6) Forms
There are three options for creating online forms. Which option is most appropriate will depend on the specific needs of the project.
Google Forms - is a simple and easy way to create an online form. Google Forms is available to all members of Swarthmore community as part of the Google Drive suite of tools. The Google form would be created in Google Drive and linked to from the website. You can reach out to ITS support for more information on building Google forms.
Qualtrics - is a full-featured online survey tool that can be used to create and distribute online surveys. Qualtrics is available to all members of Swarthmore community and has been used for faculty and student research, informal polls, online voting for committees, order forms, and course evaluations. You can reach out to ITS support for more information on building Qualtrics forms.
Drupal Forms - is an online form that is built directly into a Drupal webpage. All Drupal forms must be created by the Web Team. All requests are subject to approval. You can reach out to Web Team at web-update@swarthmore.edu for more information on building Drupal forms.
