Installation
To install, download the appropriate file below, unzip, and run the installer. Note: All previous versions of the FileMaker software will be removed.
Important Notice for Mac Users
macOS Sierra 10.12 or higher is required. If you are using an earlier OS version, please contact the Help Desk at extension 4357 or support@swarthmore.edu

Windows 64 bit: FileMaker 17 for Windows 64bit
NOTE on Windows Installation
You may get a warning about this installer being from an unknown publisher, if so, click the More Info link, then click "Run Anyway" to proceed with the installation. You will also need to respond to a prompt twice in the Command window to proceed with the installation, and removal of previous versions of FileMaker.
Mac: FileMaker 17 for Mac
Click the Download button in the upper right of the screen to download the zipped installer.
How to Connect to Shared Server-Hosted FileMaker 17 databases
VPN from off-campus
If you are connecting to the server from off campus, you will need a VPN connection first to be able to get to the Swarthmore FileMaker Server. Please make that connection before proceeding with the steps below.
- Open FileMaker 17 program
- Click File → Hosts → Show Hosts
- Click Plus Sign to “Add a favorite host” and enter the following:
- Host’s Internet Address: lilac.swarthmore.edu
- Favorite Host’s Name: FileMaker17
- Click Save (If you get a Windows Security Alert - check the boxes to allow connection from Private networks (home) and from Domain networks (Swarthmore Campus))
- You should now see FileMaker17 listed under the Favorites section
- Select your database from the list on the right hand side and click OK
