Zoom Phone project information and timeline

General project timeline

ITS has finished the early adopters phase and is currently migrating users from Cisco to Zoom Phone with our first major group already prepared to migrate at the beginning of November 2023. The project is set to be complete, with all users moved into Zoom Phone, by the end of March 2024. Below is a list of the migrations currently being planned.

  • Beginning of December 2023

  • Mid-January 2024

  • End of February 2024

  • Mid-March 2024 (Spring Break)

Migration process

This is the process departments can expect as we move forward with the migrations, which Zoom refers to as porting

  • Users will be contacted 6-7 weeks before the date they have been scheduled to migrate

  • The project team will meet with department representatives to gather phone configuration information for the department

  • Group/public training dates will be provided for users to attend 

    • Will be recorded and shared below

  • Numbers will be sent to Zoom in preparation for porting (30 days prior to the port date)

    • Users will see the Phone option appear in their settings on the Zoom browser interface - can set up office hours, voicemail, call handling, etc ahead of the port date

  • Day of migration the numbers will be ported over and all calls will go through the Zoom application

    • The current Cisco desk phone may say “Registering”, indicating it is no longer functioning for calls

  • Departments collect Cisco phones for return to ITS
